Arts in the Alley breathes life back into the Ward
On a cool, but beautiful spring weekend in April, several volunteers came together in Jackson Ward to paint murals on the old, tattered walls of Historic Jackson Ward. These volunteers didn’t have a personal agenda or ego to feed. This wasn’t a competition and the only requirement was to paint.

Black History Museum in Jackson Ward opening 2014
From timesdispatch.com Call it a sort of homecoming. In the early 1980s, the founders of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia leased the Leigh Street Armory as a home, only to see a fire at the structure gut those plans.
