Southern Blues taking over Tony’s BBQ spot?
A new restaurant Southern Blues will apparently be moving into the Tony’s BBQ spot at 207 North 3rd Street. The location will be “a full service restaraunt serving the best BBQ and southern cuisine in downtown Richmond”.
The restaurant applied for an ABC license on 10/18.

Update by Paul:
I stopped by here a while back. The place has been fixed up on the inside. The old linoleum floors are gone and so are the regulars (so far) that spent the day sipping 44′s and hanging out on the sidewalk. There is a listening room upstairs that is currently being used as rehearsal space. Here’s a sample of folk art gallery on the walls.

This is actually run by Leone’s Sports Bar at 2nd and Marshall. They may be moving there lock, stock and barrel next year.
Its operated by Southern Blues not Leone
I talked with the management of both places and they told me the same thing.
Apparently, you were mis- informed!
I hope you’re right. We don’t need a 2nd Leone’s.
Leone is a kool local bar that appeal to the locals! What we dont need is another godfrey or bar code! Thank goodness for diversity! So get over yourself!
Leone’s is a nuisance business on 2nd Street specializing in cheap food land cheap liquor. The sidewalks are crowded with people smoking and shouoting, very similar to the way Tony’s BBQ was, except louder. I hope Southern Blues runs a clean ship. So far it is a distinct improvement.
Sounds like walmart srategy! I love leones as customer and community meeting place! Our jackson ward african american cheers! Where our traditions and stories stay alive! Maybe a Nusaince to a jackson ward transplant, but sharing
Smokes, beer and laughter are priceless! Affordable prices are the kicker to all people! Transplant
