Armed Robbery/Arrest on 3rd Street

Police made a quick arrest after a man was robbed at gunpoint on a downtown Richmond street early today.

Richmond police Lt. Stephen McQuail said the victim was walking to his car at 12:55 a.m. in the 100 block of North Third Street, between East Franklin and East Grace streets, when he was confronted by three males, one with a handgun. The victim was struck and robbed before the suspects fled on foot.

Fourth Precinct officers were patrolling in the area and within minutes spotted and arrested a male matching the description of one of the suspects, McQuail said. A weapon was recovered, he said.

The other two suspects remained at large this morning. Detailed descriptions of the two were not available.

The victim was checked out at the scene by an ambulance crew, McQuail said.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the suspect who was arrested,
