Kick off the 2012 Richmond Jazz Festival at the Hippodrome tonight

Support local jazz musicians and head over to the Hippodrome tonight for the start of the 2012 Richmond Jazz Festival. Tickets are $20 and doors open at 6pm.

The weekend kicks-off Friday evening (Aug. 10) at the Hippodrome with Lonnie Liston Smith and Maestro J, both of whom make up for their lack of a household name with tunes so smooth, you’d swear they came from the other side of the pillow. It should be noted that Smith, who is a local Richmond native with a career spanning more than 40 years, will completely mesmerize you as his fingers dance across the keyboard with near perfection.
