Better Days Ahead For The Meredith House
After two centuries, this tumble down house is still hanging on, barely. According to Historic Richmond it won’t have to wait much longer for some love. It has been known here alternatively as the “End of Jackson“, Barack Obama’s Summer White House and the “Ugliest House in Richmond, it is known to the rest world as the Meredith House.
via Historic Richmond:
(It) is the second oldest house in Jackson Ward, built before 1813. It is located at 133 West Jackson Street, Richmond, Virginia 23220, one block north of the Armory. In 2008 the city initiated spot blight abatement of property. In November 2010, the City settled spot blight case with the previous owner. Historic Richmond Foundation has recently bought the property from the city and will begin rehabbing the property with ARK Construction. The house will be rehabbed into 2 two bedroom apartments.
This is the Meredith House as it stands today. I’ve been expecting it to pull an Eggleston. I hope they get to it before it’s too late. Visit Historic Richmond for a detailed history and video.

Thanks I have always wondered how long it would take for something to happen to that house. It looked sad, great to think that could change.

They say this is the second-oldest house in JW, what is the oldest? Is it the cottage across the street? There’s some other early 1800′s ones on Marshall and Clay streets.
