Stop and smell the spices
Conrad Frederick “Connie” Sauer III was the third generation of his family to lead the Richmond-based spice and food company that bears the family name.
He was at the helm of C.F. Sauer Co. for most of the second half of the 20th century, a time of significant growth and diversification for the company.
Mr. Sauer died Saturday at his Richmond home. He was 87.
Originally, the sign was high on the roof of a building at Meadow and Broad Streets and was a two-way electric sign. The chef whipping up the dish with Sauer’s Vanilla (shown above) faced westbound traffic and the otherside advertising Duke’s Mayonaise was visible to eastbound traffic on Broad Street.
Wonder what happed to the Duke’s sign?
