Two Churches – Two Worlds – One Mission
Two historic downtown Richmond churches.
Two disparate paths distinct from one another because of race and heritage.
Today’s RTD has a nice article on the bridge building partnership between Ebenezer Baptist Church, on Leigh Street in Jackson Ward and 2nd Presbyterian Church on 5th Street, two churches with church cultures that couldn’t be farther apart. When you look at these two churches you find two of everything, two races, two liturgies and two histories that have little in common, which makes it natural that they would work together. What better way to learn than from someone you have so little in common with. The cementing bond is a faith in the same basic beliefs, traditional Christianity and the Bible.
Two congregations in downtown Richmond seeking a better and brighter future that moves from parallel existence in faith and ministry to points of connection and a partnership. This new partnership promises to bring healing and hope to individual lives, congregational life — and even city life.
