‘There’s No Free Lunch’ at Quirk Gallery

Quirk Gallery in the Broad Street Gallery District recently opened “There’s No Free Lunch,” a show of paintings, drawings and collage by Shelly Klein. According to gallery director Maggie Smith, Klein’s recent works explore sadness, a theme that is reflected in this show.

“The only way to truly enjoy anything is to temporarily forget about any shame, heartbreak, guilt, regret, or outrage associated with that thing,” wrote Klein in her artist’s statement. “If we can ignore the sometimes unspeakable consequences of many of our actions, we can enjoy experiences as they happen. It’s a trade. It’s the way we buy happiness.”

The exhibit runs through June 24 at 311 W. Broad St. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
